The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML) hosted a virtual workshop on video editing for school students, teachers and other interested individuals.

The workshop, an integrated skill initiative by CSIR, was a part of CSIR Jigyasa 2.0 scheme.

The main objective of the workshop was to give participants exposure to tools and techniques required for video editing impart in-depth knowledge on their use. The idea was to train teachers and school students to edit videos in a comprehensive, innovative and easy way using professional video editing software.

The highlight of the workshop was a session on basic approaches to video editing, tool and techniques, editing background, sound effects and noise cancellation.

The one-hour programme began with a welcome address by the head of the knowledge resource and information technology (KRIT division) of CSIR-NML, Mita Tarafder. She discussed the importance of understanding video editing and gaining knowledge on the subject for school students and teachers to include creative content while presenting a new idea or concept.

The guest speaker of the programme was Snehasis Ghosal, a mechanical engineer with a post-graduate degree and rich exposure to the automobile industry as a specialist and a passionate photographer with a keen interest in video editing technologies.

Ghosal said video editing is a subject by itself and gave an overview of different software and technologies widely used by professional photographers and videographers. His session was very interesting and interactive.

The virtual programme was attended by around 90 interested people from various professional backgrounds.
