Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ), Ranchi, will soon get a new Chair named after poet and philosopher Bhima Bhoi. Two special research centres are also scheduled to come up on the campus.
The announcements were made at the second convocation ceremony of the university.
The new research centres will be named Centre for Environment, Society and Governance and Birsa Munda Centre of Indigenous Knowledge and Sustainable Development. The Chair will be tribute to Bhima Bhoi, poet, saint and philosopher from the MAHIMA sect of Odisha who worked for the removal of caste hierarchy in Hinduism.
Union minister of state for education and an MP from Jharkhand, Annapurna Devi, was the chief guest at the programme. She congratulated the university on becoming the first institution of Jharkhand to implement the New Education Policy 2020. She advised the students to enrich themselves with the morals and values of Indian Knowledge System and strive to contribute more to the creation of new indigenous knowledge and its promotion.
Annapurna Devi also congratulated the university on its good enrolment ratio among girls.
CUJ vice-chancellor Kshiti Bhusan presented a report on the university and spoke about achievements and the future course of action for the improvement of the academic ecosystem.
A total of 704 students were awarded degrees at the convocation ceremony. Twenty-eight UG/PG students received gold medals and 27 PhD scholars received doctoral degrees. Pratisha Mishra, student of MSc in Mathematics, received the Chancellor’s Medal.
