He is associate director (research) of the Palamu-based zonal research station of BAU

D.N. Singh, the associate director (research) of the Palamu-based zonal research station of Birsa Agricultural University (BAU), has been nominated as a member of the board of management of Dr Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University (RPCAU), Samastipur, Bihar. 

Singh was nominated by President Ram Nath Kovind as a scientist of eminence. His term will be of three years.

Singh had earlier served BAU as director of research, director administration and associate dean, College of Biotechnology.

He has to his credit over 300 research papers published in national and international journals of repute. He has handled 27 research projects as principal investigator or co-principal investigator. Of these, 12 projects were funded by international agencies.

With Singh’s scientific contribution as a plant breeder, 17 improved varieties of rice and other crops were released. He is credited with 14 different types of high-yield and diseases resistant rice including the scented variety of Birsamati.

 As teacher, Singh has guided six MSc and two PhD students.

After obtaining a master’s and PhD degree from Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand, Singh started his career as a junior scientist-cum-assistant professor in the department of Plant Breeding and Genetics at BAU in 1990.

Singh was directly recruited as chief scientist (Dryland Agriculture Project) in 2005.

He is adviser/consultant in the Jharkhand State Forest Development Corporation Ltd; consultant at Rapid Agriculture Bio-Tech and consultant at Rockefeller Foundation. He has prepared a project on Current Seed System of Jharkhand.
