According to the University Grants Commission (UGC), 105 universities nationwide have begun four-year undergraduate programmes, stated minister of state for education Subhas Sarkar in response to a query posed by Lok Sabha member Bharti Shiyal.

The Minister stated that the National Education Policy, NEP 2020, supports a three- to four-year undergraduate degree with a variety of departure possibilities. The option to exit the programme at different points will also be available to the students.

After completing a year in a discipline or field, including vocational and professional sectors, the student will receive a certificate. After completing two years of study, the student will receive a diploma, and three years of study will result in a bachelor's degree.

The UGC has released the curriculum and credit framework for undergraduate programmes in accordance with the recommendations and requested the higher education institutions to take the appropriate steps to implement the framework.
