Nix job hunt

To beat China at the Olympics, India must flourish as a sporting nation where extraordinary prodigies in sports are identified and nutured rather than pushed into the rat race for a stable job.

TOPS needed

If India puts in dedicated, sustained efforts and ensures the implementation of TOPS (Target Olympic Podium Scheme), Indians will definitely be able to win more medals than the Chinese.

Change is must

To do better than China at the Olympic Games, India will need to introduce more types of sports in school, change the mindset of Indian parents towards picking sports as a career, fix the corrupt sports system, recognise potential talents and refine existing ones. It is high time some attention was paid to sports other than cricket.

Nepotism a reason

The reason India can’t win is nepotism. A sportsperson is not picked for talent alone but also for contacts and financial strength. The ill effects of politics in sports is another hindrance to not only beating China but also other countries.

Undermines talent

Parents often view sports as frivolous and a waste of time, which discourages or undermines many young talents. While the government is working to promote sports, it’s essential for parents to understand that careers can be built in this field. In contrast, countries like China benefit from strong government support, extensive infrastructure, and substantial investment in sports, a level of commitment that is still rare in India.

Lack of investment

India will not win the Olympics due to the lack of investment as well as governance issues.
