Students tune in to watch the launch of the lunar mission on their smart boards at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan

Since the inception of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) in 1969, it has been every Indian’s dream to see the country etch its mark on the moon. On July 14 this year, India sent its third lunar exploration mission to our satellite and we, the students of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, watched and cheered the launch together.

Chandrayaan-3 had created a buzz in its build-up and we students were wondering if we could celebrate this proud moment in our school. We figured that the best way would be to experience the event itself. We (Sukrit and Rishan) approached our principal with an idea. All our classrooms are equipped with smart boards as a part of our curriculum and we thought of streaming the live telecast of the Chandrayaan-3 launch through these boards in every class. The principal endorsed the idea and teachers and technical staff helped in its execution.

On the day of the launch, excitement was in the air. Students with bated breath kept their fingers crossed for the successful launch and countdowns could be heard in unison from different classrooms. And when the golden moment approached, classrooms and corridors burst with cheers, claps, and proud jubilation. Students spontaneously started singing the National Anthem and the school building was buzzing with chants of “Bharat mata ki Jai! and “Jai Hind!”

Later Rishan and I visited the classes to get feedback from our peers. They all appreciated the initiative and this motivated us a lot. We shall remember celebrating this occasion all our lives.
