Summary
The University of Sheffield is inviting applications for the Undergraduate course in Bioengineering with a year in Industrial Placement
Students can specialise in four different fields of Biomedical Engineering, Medical Devices and Systems, Biomaterials Science and Tissue Engineering, and Biomanufacturing

The University of Sheffield, one of the premier public technical and research universities located in the United Kingdom, has introduced an Undergraduate course in Bioengineering with a year in Industrial Placement (BEng.). It is a 4-year long course, beginning in September 2022, for the academic year of 2022-23.

The course promises to “help shape the future of healthcare technology” with a flexible paradigm that provides an expansive understanding of Bioengineering to students. The course structure covers disciplines of Biology, Physiology, Anatomy, as well as how to employ traditional engineering principles to understand the human body.

Students enrolled in the course can specialise in one of these four broad areas in their second year of study:

Biomedical Engineering: How engineering principles can provide innovative solutions to safeguard and enhance human health.

Medical Devices and Systems: The development of novel medical devices and the improvement of clinical engineering systems.

Biomaterials Science and Tissue Engineering: The application of materials engineering and cell biology principles to achieve improved repair of injured and damaged body tissues and organs.

Biomanufacturing: The application of chemical engineering and cell biology principles to improve the manufacture of pharmaceuticals and other biologically active substances.

The course also offers a year of Industrial Placements wherein students are encouraged to work in an industry set-up. In their final year, they will be required to partake in the Global Engineering Challenge, working alongside other students on a week-long project to solve a problem set by one of the university’s industrial partners. The course is therefore designed to make students industry-ready and equip them with hands-on experience.

For more information on the course, such as application procedure, eligibility criteria, fees and scholarship, students can visit the official website: https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/undergraduate/courses/2022/bioengineering-year-industry-beng
