On the august occasion of International Teachers Day, The Telegraph Online Edugraph releases a very special anthology of pieces written by eminent educators and principals from across the country. The anthology titled - Taming Distraction: Thriving in the Attention Economy contains 16 compositions along with a foreword written by Ms Devi Kar, Director of Modern High School for Girls & Modern High International School.
The concept of the 'Attention Economy', put forth by economist, psychologist, and Nobel laureate, Herbert A. Simon in the late 1960s, has possibly gained relevance like never before. With the rise of digital devices, and the world wide web bringing a wealth of information literally to the fingertips, more and more distractions constantly vie for attention - an already sparse resource for learners across the world. You need only take a look at a standard smartphone and be astounded by the sheer number of notifications that pop up in close succession.
Keeping these distractions and their impact on young learners in mind, we went and spoke to the experts - teachers, professors, educators who have spent years gathering invaluable experience from teaching and interacting with evolving learners. And this anthology is what grew out of those interactions.
