In the chaos of the game, goalkeepers maintain grace and composure. This line holds absolute steadfastness if one were to describe the manner in which Emi Martinez graced the ‘City of Joy’. The aura that lingered around the FIFA World Cup 2023 ‘Golden Glove’ recipient was astounding to say the least. The students of St. Augustine’s Day School, Shyamnagar had the privilege to bear witness to this probably once in lifetime meet and greet with the current Aston Villa Goalkeeper, Emi Martinez. The students in attendance were - Prajna Divyadeepta Roy, Snehasish Bhattacharya and Yash Jhunjhunwala from the 12th standard, John Toppo, Reshant Oraon and Priyobrata Ghosh from the 9th standard. Their reaction to meeting one of Argentina’s best was nothing short of spellbinding.
The students appreciate the combined efforts Mr. Debasis Moitra (Assistant Administrator), our ever helpful Headmistress, Ms. Sanusree Sarkhel for accompanying them and last but not the least, our esteemed Principal, Rev. Rodney Borneo for spearheading the entire student interaction.
The take back from this event is not only a plethora of treasured football skills imparted to the students by Mr. Martinez, but most importantly it was the memories captured by the ‘shutter’ that showcased their true emotions.
