A National Seminar, titled 'Leveraging Emerging Technologies in Anthropogenic Research: Unleashing the Potential of GIS and AI Technologies' is being conducted by the Department of Anthropology, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh. The two-day long seminar is being held on March 20 and 21.

The main objectives of the seminar are to explore the current state of AI technology and its relevance to various subfields within anthropology and the intersection of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), commonly known as GeoAI, including its potential for advancing anthropogenic research.

management and to discuss the potential risks and challenges associated with AI technologies in anthropology, including bias, privacy concerns, and cultural sensitivity," said Dr (Prof) Roumi Deb, Director, Amity Institute of Anthropology.

The Guest Speakers include Dr Sanjay Manjul, Additional Director General of Archaeology, Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Prof (Dr) Milap Punia , Professor, Centre for the Study of Regional Development, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Dr Balveer Kumar, Scientist G, DIT & CS, DRDO, Delhi, Dr Gautam Dutta, Director – Marketing, Siemens Digital Industries Software, Dr Prateik Ghosh, Director, Plexus Infratech Pvt Ltd, and CTO, SCS Tech India Pvt Ltd, amongst others.

The seminar aims to unveil the latent potential of GeoAI, probing its applications across diverse subfields within anthropology. From archaeological endeavours leveraging remote sensing and 3D modelling to contemporary epidemiological studies utilizing AI for disease surveillance, the seminar will highlight the multifaceted dimensions of GeoAI's impact, navigate the ethical and societal implications and address biases, privacy concerns, and cultural sensitivities.
