Gokhale Memorial Girls' College is set to organise an event on the 15 May, 2024 to celebrate the work of the veteran film director, Mrinal Sen on the occasion of his birth centenary that has just passed us by. The event seeks to pay tribute to Mr. Sen, who has delivered such poignant movies like "Bhuvan Shome"," Raat Bhore", "Neel Akasher Neechey", "Interview", etc. and will be jointly hosted by the Departments of English and Communicative English of Gokhale Memorial Girls' College.

The day will commence at 9:30 am with registration and will be followed by a welcome address and a talk on Mrinal Sen's life and cinema by Prof. Sanjay Mukhopadhyay, Professor of Film Studies, Jadavpur University. The talk will lead us to the poetics and politics of Sen's works creating a perfect background for the screening of his film, "Ekdin Pratidin", which revolves around the unimaginable struggle of a middle-class family when their only bread-winning daughter goes missing, in the later half of the event. Though the plot is harrowing, Sen's film certainly retains a whiff of hope and a message for the common folk and, thus, to seek hope and inspiration from Sen's repertoire, the event will consequently host a panel discussion with some contemporary artists, like Mr. Utsav Mukherjee, Mr. Srijit Mukherjee and Mr. Indrasis Acharya, all of whom have engaged with Sen in different capacities.

The panel will be moderated by film critic, Shoma A. Chatterji. With a heartfelt acknowledgement of the guests, the audience, and the sponsors, Indian Overseas Bank, Avision, T. I. M. E, RICE, and Bioartscalcutta, its video partner, Brainware University, and digital media partners Edugraph (English) and Sanmarg (Hindi), we shall call it a day!
