Bhawanipur Global Campus, School of Design recently hosted a lively master session on Character Design and Visual Storytelling with Savio Mascarenhas, the Group Art Director at Amar Chitra Katha. If you’re into comics, you probably know Amar Chitra Katha — it’s basically a household name in India.
For the students, it was a chance they don’t get every day. Savio pulled back the curtain on how he brings characters to life and builds stories that stick with you. He talked openly about his own experiences in the comic book world, breaking down how he dreams up and develops unforgettable characters. Students soaked in plenty of tips about storytelling, design thinking, and illustration.
One of the best moments? Savio’s animated retelling of how Shikari Shambu — the lovable goof he’s been drawing since 1997 — came to be. He even dived into how Little Shambu evolved. His stories and insights made the whole session feel alive, and you could see it inspired both first-year and seasoned design students.
Savio doesn’t stop at comics, either. He’s a TEDx speaker, where he’s talked about “Visual Art Learning,” sharing how visual storytelling can really change how we learn and create.
This session sums up what Bhawanipur School of Design is all about — bringing in experts, giving students a real taste of the industry, and making learning hands-on. The buzz in the room said it all; students left energised and grateful. Events like this show just how committed the Bhawanipur Global Campus is to shaping tomorrow’s bright leaders the momentum makers.
