The Satikanta Guha Foundation, which runs two schools in Kolkata and one in Kalyani, will open a fourth — Garden High School Sonarpur.

The Sonarpur school, which will start its journey in April, will take in students from Pre-nursery to Class V, said Anuradha Das, chief academic adviser to Satikanta Guha Foundation.

The schools that the group runs in the city are Garden High School and Garden High International School.

“We will do it in a way where we will follow the framework of ICSE but we will take the best practices from other boards, including international curriculums,” said Das, who is also director of Garden High International School and Garden High School Sonarpur.

“With globalisation, no parent can say with certainty where their children will be after 10 years. So we want to equip our children to handle all situations and they can choose any board that they want after Class VIII or even later,” said Das.

The school is coming up on a 14-acre plot and will focus on extracurricular activities, too. The authorities have promised a separate building to house the library.

“It will not be a text-book library. It will encourage children to read and research. We need to develop the mentality for research and library hours will not be dedicated to school hours alone,” Das said.

Admissions to the new school start in the third week of January. It will cater to residents of Narendrapur, Sonarpur and Kamalgazi.

“The city is growing, so why should we be limited to certain areas. The growth of a city is determined not by housing projects alone, but educational centres and hospitals,” said Das.
