The first public concert of musician Diptanshu Roy’s Dolinman X series took place at First Flush cafe in Gariahat on September 10. The name of the series — also the singer’s screen name — Dolinman is an anagram of mandolin, the musical instrument he’s a master of. Diptanshu teamed up with singer Prajna and classical guitarist Abhijit Kundu for the concert. The project is a collaborative series with artists from various genres of performing arts
All images by Pooja Mitra“The idea of this series came to me in 2021 during the pandemic when I started to miss interacting with fellow musicians and the audience,” said Diptanshu about the project when introducing the series. The musical evening continued with a ‘bhawaiya’ number from Cooch Behar, and songs like ‘Kotoi ranga dekhi duniyay’, ‘Cheye cheye dekhi saradin’ and more. Each piece had a creative take by the trio, adding more surprises to the evening
Diptanshu enthralled the audience with his instrumental prowess and also performed ‘Dolinman's Reel,’ a self-composed instrumental piece recorded during the 2021 pandemic. You can find the Dolinman X playlist on YouTube to tune in. Diptanshu will be performing on September 23, at 9pm at ITC Royal Bengal’s The Brass Room with his bluegrass band NSA
