Two passengers die and 20 suffer injuries when an NBSTC bus overturns in North Dinajpur

Two passengers died and at least 20 suffered injuries when an NBSTC (North Bengal State Transport Corporation) bus turned its side in North Dinajpur district on Saturday morning.

The bus was heading for Siliguri from Calcutta when the driver lost control on NH27 at Manora, which is under the jurisdiction of Chakulia police station.

After the accident, local people helped the passengers exit the bus. A team from the Kanki police outpost also arrived.

The deceased, police sources said, were Rita Biswas, 52, and Indrani Roy, 70, who were from Calcutta.

According to the police sources, at least 20 passengers were injured and four of them were in critical condition. The four with critical injuries had initially been sent to Kishanganj Medical College & Hospital in Bihar and were later shifted to North Bengal Medical College & Hospital in Siliguri.

Some injured passengers received treatment at a local health centre.

The police seized the vehicle and started a probe.
