Rahul Dravid's continuation as Team India head coach after the T20 World Cup in June is not guaranteed since the BCCI has decided to advertise for the post and the former captain will have to apply again if he wants his tenure extended.

"We will call for applications in the next few days. Rahul's tenure is only up to June. So if he wants to apply, he is free to do so," BCCI secretary Jay Shah told reporters in Mumbai on Thursday.

Shah confirmed the new head coach will be offered to take charge till the ODI World Cup in 2027.

"We are looking for a long-term coach for three years," Shah said. "There is no precedent of different coaches for different formats in Indian cricket. Besides, we have a number of all-format players... Ultimately, it will be the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC)'s call. I have to implement what they decide."

The Board secretary said that the Indian team will leave for the World Cup in two batches. The players whose teams don't qualify for the IPL playoffs will leave on May 24 along with the coaching staff. The rest of the squad will leave after the IPL final on May 26. India's first match is against Ireland on June 5.

Shah said that the Impact Player rule in the IPL will be discussed with various stakeholders after the conclusion of the World Cup in June. “It was brought in as a test case. On the bright side, it is providing additional playing opportunities to two more Indian players,” Shah said. “We will consult with the franchise captains, players, franchises and broadcasters and then decide about the future course.”
