For many Indian kids of the ’90s, Baba Sehgal is the OG hipster rapper. His cool lyrics – remember Thanda Thanda Pani? — were a craze and his cassettes sold like hot cakes. He hosted Superhit Muqabla on DD2 on primetime, while MTV India played his songs on loop.

For the past couple of years, this ’90s indie pop sensation has been releasing singles on his official YouTube channel Baba Sehgal Entertainment, but it is his fun rap songs on Instagram on all things food that we are digging the most.

What makes Baba Sehgal’s new rap songs catchy are the nuggets of wisdom and life lessons he shares, with a sip or bite in front, while playing on words. This song, for instance, heaps praises on black coffee, a cup of which, he says, is enough to perk you up anytime, especially to get you out of bed in the morning.

In this ‘Khao Biryani’ song, Baba Sehgal captures a biryani buff’s sentiments. Seated in a restaurant, he digs into mutton biryani and goes on rapping between mouthfuls, urging one to forget counting calories while relishing a plateful of the flavoured rice.

With this song, Baba Sehgal pays tribute to a simple pleasure like dunking a biscuit in a cup of tea and then sipping it. This is Baba’s tip for you for an instant mood-lifter.

Baba Sehgal professes his love for the popular, pocket-friendly snack in the Bun Maska song. The fun in the rhyming makes this a winner, with Baba mentioning the ‘chaska’ of Bun Maska… ‘Koi karey isey ignore, hai nahi kisi ke bus ka’.

He gives a twist to the Money Heist chartbuster Bella Ciao with his own Kela Khao song, where he raps about the benefits of bananas.

In this post, Baba Sehgal prescribes Adrakwali Chai as a stress-buster. ‘Sab tension ki ek dawa – Adrak wali chai,’ he sings.
