London: President Donald Trump has told TV presenter Piers Morgan in an interview on board Air Force One that he intends seeking re-election in 2020 and "it seems like everybody wants me to".

Morgan, an uncritical admirer of Trump whom he has interviewed on 35 occasions over the past 12 years, talked to the President for half an hour while Air Force One was stationary on the ground at Stansted Airport prior to its departure for Prestwick in Scotland on Friday.

The President and his wife Melania arrived by helicopter from Windsor after taking tea with the Queen for 45 minutes.

"The Queen is fantastic!" the President gushed. "She's a fantastic woman; so much energy and smart and sharp. She was amazing! Such a wonderful lady and so beautiful! It was such an honour to finally meet her."

According to The Sunday Times, Prince Charles and Prince William "snubbed" the President by refusing to meet him and allowing the 92-year-old monarch to deal with Trump on her own. Prince Philip, who has retired from public duty but picks and chooses which events he wishes to attend, was also absent.

Prince Charles and Prince William, "the first two in line to the throne let it be known during informal discussions about the President's four-day trip that they did not want to take part", the paper reported in its main front page story.

Morgan's interview will be broadcast on Monday morning on ITV but he released excerpts to the Mail on Sunday, including the section where he asked Trump: "Is there any doubt you'll run again in 2020?"

Trump: "Well you never know what happens with health and other things...."

Morgan: "You look fit."

Trump: "I feel good."

Morgan: "I saw your menu for tonight, pretty healthy stuff... but 2020, are you going to run?"

Trump: "Well I fully intend to. It seems like everybody wants me to."

Morgan: "Do you see a Democrat who can possibly beat you?"

Trump: "No. I don't see anybody. I know them all and I don't see anybody."

Morgan: "So liberals could be facing not two more years of you but potentially six?"

Trump: "They do not have the right candidate."

Scotland police said they had arrested a 55-year-old man in connection with a powered parachute being flown in the vicinity of Trump's Turnberry resort around 9.45pm on Friday.

The man unfurled a banner, which said "Trump Well Below Par", was being linked to a campaign by Greenpeace.
