College Street: Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi, the chancellor of Presidency University, has accepted a proposal to extend the tenure of vice-chancellor Anuradha Lohia by up to six months, a Raj Bhavan official said.

Lohia's current tenure ends on May 1.

The extension will allow time for appointment of the next vice-chancellor through a search committee.

"It is customary to extend the tenure of the serving VC in interim capacity in such situations. The higher education department had sent us a proposal, seeking to extend her tenure as the hunt would continue beyond May 1. Now an extension letter will be sent to the university," the official said.

The search panel had issued an advertisement on April 9 seeking nominations/applications for the VC's post by 5pm on May 4.
