NEW EMOJIS ON THE WAY:
By the end of 2018, there is a slim chance that we may trade in the written word for hieroglyphics! Unicode Consortium, a group that helps make open standards to allow people to use computers around the world, has announced that 157 new emojis will join the 2,666 already in existence when the Unicode 11.0 standard is released in June. Wow!
First, a clarification. The 157 new characters include variations in skin tones. The number of new characters is 77. The new stash will include new hairstyles for men and women, including red-haired, curly-haired, white-haired and bald.
In the animals category, we may get access to a peacock, a badger, a hippo, a swan, a kangaroo, a llama, a parrot, a lobster and a mosquito.
What about food emojis? Get ready for mango, leafy greens, a bagel, a moon cake, a cupcake and a salt shaker.
Also coming your way are science-related emojis, which include a lab coat, goggles, a magnet, a test tube, a petri dish, a microbe and a strand of DNA.
Then there are those which cannot be categorised, like a pirate flag, a roll of toilet paper, a receipt, a firecracker, a suitcase and a jigsaw puzzle piece.
But remember, not all emojis may get selected immediately for iOS and Android devices. It’s up to individual manufacturers and software makers to integrate the finalised versions of code into their respective software.
What are the two emojis on your demand list?
