Raiganj: The North Dinajpur police on Monday arrested the prime accused in the murder of a poultry trader and seized some illegal firearms and live cartridges from him.

On August 21, Mukka had allegedly shot dead the poultry trader Mohammad Jainal during an altercation in front of the trader's shop at Dhantala, located on the outskirts of Islampur, police said.

"Mukka is the principal accused in the Dhantala murder case. Based on the information spilled by Shoaib, one of Mukka's associates arrested earlier, we caught Mukka a few days ago," said Kartick Chandra Mondal, the additional superintendent of police, Islampur. The police informed Mukka heads a gang of miscreants and was involved in various crimes.

They raided a number of locations based on the information provided by Shoaib and in total seized nine illegal firearms and 33 rounds of live cartridges. "Our officers are probing the case and trying to find out from where they had obtained the arms and ammunitions," Mondal added.
