Child’s body exhumed

Police on Saturday exhumed the body of an 11-year-old girl following a complaint that family members buried the body without getting a death certificate issued. The family said Pachi Mondal died on Thursday after a portion of a wall under construction near her Trinathpally house in Salt Lake collapsed on her. The parents buried the body without approaching a doctor or the police. An officer of Bidhannagar South police station said a probe had been launched into the “unnatural death”.

BJP bandh on price rise

The BJP has called a 12-hour Bangla bandh on Monday to protest the price hike. On November 24, the SUCI had called a Bangla bandh on the same issue. No other party is backing the BJP’s shutdown call. Police said special arrangements would be made to ensure smooth traffic movement. Around 2,000 additional cops will be deployed on the road and special pickets will be posted across the city.

Metro Railway

Amar Nath has taken over as general manager of Metro Railways. He replaces V. N. Tripathi, who is now general manager of Eastern Railway.

Sagar trains

Two special trains will run between Delhi and Namkhana, in South 24-Parganas, to ferry Ganga Sagar pilgrims to Sagar mela, railway minister Mamata Banerjee said on Sunday.he trains will leave Delhi on January 14 and reach Namkhana via Lucknow, Allahabad and Calcutta. The trains will leave Namkhana on January 16.

Father beaten up

A 65-year-old man was allegedly beaten up by his two sons on Sunday morning for refusing to transfer his property to them. Police said Ashish Chakrabarty, a resident of Bidhanpally in Madhyamgram, where he runs a stationery shop, had a fight with his sons over property. Neighbours took him to Madhyamgram hospital. The sons are absconding.

Worker dead

A 26-year-old labourer was found dead in a building under construction in Purbachal, Kasba, early on Sunday. Police said Abhijit Roy, a resident of Nadia, was hacked to death. No one has been arrested.
