Tolly’s Nullah TET forms Man killed LPG blast Body found Arrest

Tolly’s Nullah

The Calcutta Municipal Corporation (CMC) resolved to take over the responsibility of sewage and sewerage interception and treatment for the 237-year-old Tolly’s Nullah at a mayoral council meeting on Wednesday. The state government recently gave the CMC the responsibility to design and run a combined sewage treatment plant so that only treated sewage enters the canal. The municipal affairs department will fund the project. However, the canal will remain with the irrigation department.

TET forms

The last date for distribution and submission of forms for the teacher’s eligibility test (TET) has been extended till February 11 from February 8. School Service Commission officials said the extension follows complaints of non-availability of forms at post offices.

Man killed

A truck ran over Manoranjan Pal, an ex-army personnel, on GT Road near Bally in Howrah on Wednesday. Police said Pal, 66, was pushing his scooter that had a flat tyre when the truck hit him. Driver Bipan Gon was arrested. The vehicle has been impounded.

LPG blast

A woman was killed after an LPG cylinder burst at her house in Uttarpara, Hooghly, around 8pm on Tuesday. She was taken to Uttarpara State General Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries around midnight.

Body found

Hemanta Naskar, 48, was found hanging in his house at Naskar Para in the Survey Park area on Tuesday. No suicide note was found, said police.


Gedu Boral, 42, was arrested from the Dum Dum area early on Wednesday on the charge of committing a murder in December 2013. He was produced at Bidhannagar court and remanded in police custody for seven days.
