Garment shop gutted

A garment shop in Rajabagan was gutted in a fire that broke out early on Sunday. According to police, residents noticed thick black smoke billowing out of the shop around 1am and alerted the fire brigade. Twelve tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames.

The common entrance test conducted by West Bengal University of Technology will be held on July 1 instead of June 17 because of “technical reasons”. The exam is held for admission to professional courses like BBA and BCA that are not recognised by the All India Council of Technical Education.

Traffic hit

Traffic was severely hit on Delhi Road after an overloaded gas tanker of Hindustan Petroleum overturned near Mankundu, about 30km from Calcutta, around 8pm on Sunday. The tanker was heading towards Magra from Calcutta. Some vehicles were diverted to Durgapur Expressway.

Three men were injured when a Matador hit a rickshaw from behind on James Long Sarani near Joka on Sunday morning. The rickshawpuller and two passengers — Thakurpukur residents Chandan Maji and Gourab Das — were admitted to Vidyasagar hospital in a critical condition. The Matador driver managed to escape.
