Calcutta: Bengal has set its sights on developing the IT sector in Rajarhat in the mould of the Silicon Valley.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday that the aim was to generate jobs and bring the state's skilled youth back from traditional IT hubs like Hyderabad, Bangalore and even overseas. "We plan to develop a 'Silicon Valley Asia' in Rajarhat," Mamata said.
Kamal Agarwala of Nasscom said "Calcutta has everything to become a Silicon Valley". According to Arnab Basu of the Bengal Chamber, a "key feature of Silicon Valley is hardware manufacturing". "All these areas need to be further developed."
For industrialist Sanjay Budhia, "Silicon Valley Asia is a clarion call for our brothers and sisters to come back to Bengal".
