Siliguri, July 28: Unlike in previous years, residents of the town hardly supported the 24-hour bandh called annually by CPI-ML (Mahadeb Mukherjee) to protest against the assassination of Naxalite leader Charu Majumdar in 1972.

While two Naxalite factions ? the CPI-ML (Kanu Sanyal) and the CPI-ML (Liberation) ? did not support the call, the CPI-ML (New Democracy) extended moral support.

Flow of traffic was partially affected today due to the closure of shops and trading establishments. However, public transport was on the roads and offices ? both in the government and private sectors ? were also on in full swing.

Activists of the CPI-ML (Mahadeb Mukherjee), however, hailed today?s bandh as a success and senior leader Ratan Dey said people here had registered their protest.
