Burdwan, Aug. 3: A senior manager of Punjab National Bank’s regional office in Burdwan town was slashed with a dagger allegedly by a customer following an argument over a loan.

A police officer said Sintu Chakraborty, who was allegedly drunk, had demanded that the amount of a loan he had taken be increased.

When senior manager Jayanta Chakraborty refused, Sintu pulled out the dagger, hidden under his shirt, and slashed him in the neck and right wrist. Other employees rushed to Jayanta’s rescue and caught Sintu, who was handed over to the police.

“The other employees pounced on Sintu and snatched the dagger from him. A team from Burdwan police station was called in to arrest Sintu,” said Dilip Ganguly, the inspector-in-charge.

Sintu, the police said, had taken a loan for his two-wheeler showroom in Hooghly’s Tarakeswar.

Jayanta received half a dozen stitches at Burdwan Medical College Hospital before being discharged.

The police said Sintu had also brought petrol in a plastic container. “The container was found outside the manager’s room. It is not clear why Sintu brought the petrol,” an officer said.
