Calcutta, Nov. 10: The chief of a forum formed by Kamduni villagers after the rape and murder of a college girl in June was beaten up last night by suspected members of an organisation Trinamul had floated to counter the group.

Bhaskar Mandal, who heads the Kamduni Pratibadi Mancha, was beaten up by alleged members of the Shanti Raksha Committee when he was returning home from a Jagadhatri puja pandal around 10 last night.

Denying the charge, Trinamul accused Mandal of assaulting a party activist’s father and wife.

CPM leader Sujya Kanta Mishra condemned the attack on Mondal, saying the culprits “should be brought to task”.

He urged people cutting across party lines to condemn the “spate of atrocities on women” in the state.
