Bijoygarh/Jodhpur Park: Fight against dengue is non-existent in Bijoygarh's Pallisree, which lost a 10-year-old resident to dengue on Saturday, a visit to the area by Metro revealed.
Pallisree is part of Ward 98 of the Calcutta Municipal Corporation, which has seen two dengue deaths over the past fortnight.
A woman from Netajinagar died of the mosquito-borne disease on October 7.
This newspaper on Sunday found garbage piled up in several pockets of Pallisree. Cups doubling as mosquito-breeding sites were found strewn across a park in the locality.
Pallisree resident Abirbhab Majumder, a Class V student of South Point School who had been running a fever since October 15, died of "severe dengue with multi-organ dysfunction" at AMRI Hospitals Dhakuria on Saturday.
"I do not remember the last time a civic health team came here to spray larvicide or to check mosquito-breeding sites," said Tanmoy Majumdar, a resident of the area.
