Ex-KLO militants marry, cops greet couple
Jalpaiguri: The former self-styled deputy commander of the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation has tied his nuptial knot with his long time associate in the outlawed outfit.
Joydeb Roy alias Tom Adhikary married his girlfriend Menoka Roy at his home in Fataktari in Dhupguri block of Jalpaiguri district on Monday night.
Jayanta, Tom's younger brother, said they had made elaborate arrangements for the reception that was held on Tuesday.
"Around 2,000 people have been invited to the reception. Among them were former KLO militants, local residents and some police officers and Trinamul leaders. It is a great relief for us that he finally got married," said Jayanta.
Tom appeared calm after the wedding.
"I would thank the chief minister for recognising the Rajbangshi language and forming two academies for Rajbangshi and Kamtapuri languages. I want to work for socio-economic development of people," he said.
Menoka had been to KLO camps in Bhutan and was nabbed with Tom and other militants during Operation Flushout conducted by the Royal Bhutan Army in 2003
Menoka was later released from jail and joined as an ICDS worker. Tom, however, continued to remain in the central correctional home in Jalpaiguri as he was wanted in many cases. #In 2011, the Trinamul government freed a number of political prisoners, including Tom.
