Elderly duo 'drugged'

An elderly man and woman were dragged out of a taxi on Bentinck Street by a youth and left unconscious on the road on Tuesday afternoon. The youth left in the same vehicle.

Bowbazar: An elderly man and woman were dragged out of a taxi on Bentinck Street by a youth and left unconscious on the road on Tuesday afternoon. The youth left in the same vehicle.

Pedestrians alerted police about the two around 4.30pm. The duo, who are in their 70s, were taken to the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital where they have been admitted. Both remained unconscious till late on Tuesday.

The police suspect the two were drugged. They have not been identified yet. There was nothing on them to prove their identity, the cops said.

"The two might have been drugged. No witness took down the registration number of the vehicle. Whether they were robbed of their valuables or not can be known only when they regain consciousness," an officer of Bowbazar police station said.

No external injury marks were found on them, a police officer said.

Lightning

A resident of Pramodgarh in New Town said a bolt of lightning struck his house on Tuesday afternoon.

Gopal Sardar, the owner of the house, said he was in his bedroom when he heard a deafening sound. He went to his terrace and saw a bamboo pole he had put up to hang a clothes line was broken and blackened.

Nobody was injured in the incident.
