Leader grilled

Calcutta, May 25: Baruipur police today interrogated a former CPM MLA, Ananda Biswas, after Saradha boss Sudipta Sen apparently told them that the leader had helped him buy a 165-acre plot in South 24-Parganas’ Bishnupur in 2009.

Sen, the police said, had showcased the land as the site of a proposed housing project to attract investments in deposit-mobilising schemes. CPM sources said that last year, the party did not renew the membership of Biswas, who was the Bishnupur MLA from 2001 to 2011.

Chinsurah: Trinamul secretary-general Partha Chatterjee announced on Saturday that the party’s candidates for the panchayat polls would start filing their nominations for the first phase from May 29.
