Driver killed

Siliguri, Nov. 16: Govind Biswakarma (40), the driver of a private bus, died in a road accident last night.

Biswakarma, a resident of Sumuk in East Sikkim, lost control of the vehicle and it hurtled into the Teesta near Lohapul under Rambhi police outpost around 10.30pm. The bus was on its way to Siliguri with Hariprasad Chhetri, the cleaner. Chhetri is under treatment in the Kalimpong subdivisional hospital.

Vehicle found

Siliguri: Police recovered a stolen Tata 207 from Chopra in North Dinajpur on Friday afternoon. The vehicle had been missing from Sevoke Road on November 14 after it was loaded with 50 bags of tea. The police recovered 19 bags of tea from the vehicle that was abandoned. The driver is absconding.

Malda: Tata Motors launched the Sumo Victa Turbo DI, a new version of its utility vehicle, on Friday here. The vehicle is fitted with a new 3l turbo-charged engine. With an eye to catch markets in here, the improved fuel economy car was launched by the company’s marketing manager Tamal Das.
