Malda, Nov. 10: Three undertrials escaped from the Englishbazar police lock-up last night by bending the iron rods of the toilet window while the officers were busy changing shifts.

Job protest

Burdwan: Police chased away 200 civic police personnel demonstrating in Burdwan on Sunday to protest the termination of their contract. The personnel had been hired to assist the police during the Pujas.

Visva letter

Santiniketan: The teachers’ association in Visva-Bharati — Adhyapaka Sabha — has written to the vice-chancellor about its unwillingness to accept his suggestion that the organisation be split. The Sabha said a decision should be taken only after the terms of the elected representatives ended in September 2014.

Free aid

New Delhi (UNI): The Haryana Union of Journalists will provide free homoeopathic aid to all journalists in the state. The union’s president, Mr K.B. Pandit, said on Thursday that newsmen had made the arrangement with the Homoeopathic Education and Medical Society of Haryana.
