A 51-year-old manager of a nationalised bank has been reported missing since Friday afternoon, after boarding a BBD Bag-bound bus at Jodhpur Park.

The cellphone of Sunit Kumar Sinha, posted in Patna for two years, has been outside network coverage area.

“Sinha’s family members had not received a ransom call till late on Sunday,” said an officer of Lake police station.

According to police, Sinha, whose family stays in an apartment on Dhakuria Station Road, came to the city on May 27, after his son Samudra passed Madhyamik.

“Sinha had been going around collecting forms from schools to admit his son to Plus Two courses. On Friday, Sinha visited two schools in south Calcutta with wife Aparna and their son. He collected an admission form from one and submitted it before reaching the other,” said an investigator.

By then, the second school, in Jodhpur Park, had stopped issuing forms for the day. “Sinha asked Aparna and Somudra to return home, saying he would have to go to the BBD Bag branch of the bank where he works. He boarded the bus from Dakshinapan,” said another officer.

Aparna called her husband around 4.30pm, only to hear that his cellphone number was out of reach. She lodged a police complaint on Saturday morning.

Preliminary investigation by the police revealed that Sinha’s cellphone was in the Esplanade area around 4pm on Friday.

“The mobile tower that delivered a call to Sinha’s cellphone is in Esplanade. The call was not answered,” said an officer.
