Calcutta, April 24: The bail prayer moved on behalf of Bangshibadan Barman, a Greater Cooch Behar Democratic Party leader currently lodged in jail, was today rejected by a division bench of Calcutta High Court.

Barman is contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Cooch Behar and his lawyers had appealed for his release on parole to campaign. The division bench was headed by Justice K.J. Sengupta.

Barman was arrested following a mob violence in Cooch Behar on September 20, 2005. Three policemen, including an additional superintendent of police, were killed and two supporters demanding separate state for Cooch Behar were killed on the day.
