Three held in rape case

Police have arrested three persons in connection with the rape of an anganwadi worker near Kaloria village in Gondia police limits on Monday afternoon.

Dhenkanal: Police have arrested three persons in connection with the rape of an anganwadi worker near Kaloria village in Gondia police limits on Monday afternoon.

The police said the woman, a 28-year-old anganwadi worker, was working at Banliapada. She is recently married and stays at her paternal house as she was works there.

On Monday, the woman and her brother had gone to a nearby village on an official assignment. They were returning on a two-wheeler. Three persons identified as, Laxmidhar Biswal, the key accused, and two of his associates, Ananta dash and Gobind Pradhan, intercepted them near Khariajhoka village. The trio belong to the locality. They forcibly took the woman in their car after beating her brother.

The police said that after taking the woman to Laxmidhar's farmhouse, Ananta and Gobind had left the place leaving her with Laxmidhar. Laxmidhar then allegedly raped the woman in his farmhouse. Later, he dropped the woman at the place from where they had picked her up.

Her brother had rushed the woman to the nearby Joranda police outpost and lodged a complaint. The case was then transferred to Gondia police station.

Dhenkanal sub-divisional police officer A. Karim said: "After getting the complaint, the police nabbed Laxmidhar after raids in various places. His two associates were taken into custody from their houses in the locality. The car used in the crime has been seized. On interrogation, it was revealed that Laxmidhar was known to the woman's family. Both were sent for the medical examination. Further investigation is on," he said.
