Cuttack: Police nabbed three men and recovered items that were stolen in a break-in at a house in Mathasahi after a breakthrough in the case.
The police had started a probe after receiving a complaint on Sunday from Sanjay Nayak about a burglary at the house. The break-in had occurred the previous night when his father was alone.
"We arrested three persons and produced them in court on Tuesday and the stolen items were recovered from them," Akhileswar Singh, Cuttack deputy commissioner of police, said.
Sanjiv Naik, 27, and Manoj Naik, 20, who belonged to the same locality, visited the house every day for a few days and spent time with the elderly resident. They spent time with him when he was alone. They also used to run errands for him.
The cops picked up the duo suspecting a method behind their regular visits. During interrogation, they admitted to the crime, the police said.
The police said the duo had spent time at the house hours before the theft. Deepak Raj, another local resident, saw them when they were leaving after the crime. However, they cut a deal with him and Deepak took a share of the booty to keep quiet, the police said.
Deepak was arrested for keeping the stolen articles.
All the articles were recovered as the accused persons did not get the time to dispose of those, the police said.
