Odia designer Sujit Meher surprised fashionistas with his new collection at an event celebrating Nuakhai held earlier this week in Bangalore. While his collection last year on Sambalpuri handloom based on folk fashion was much appreciated, Sujit this year lived up to the expectation with Bohemian style outfits in his new product line.

At the event, the 25-year-old designer showcased 14 new designs. For women he had created a wide range of tops, palazzos, jackets and shrugs and for men he had designed stylish jackets and chinos.

"This time I had tried to make all garments more stylish and ready to wear. Each of my outfits is meant for all seasons and my products are very pocket friendly. I have used only Sambalpuri ikkat handloom without fusion with another fabrics," he said.

"The collection simultaneously showcases the richness of our tradition and culture," said Sujit, an alumnus of National Institute of Fashion Technology, Bangalore.

At the fashion show, which was a part of the cultural congregation, models sashayed down the ramp in pairs. The event was organised by Juhar Parivar, a community of west Odisha residents based in Bangalore. More than 1,500 people were present at the event.
