Sambalpur set for Lok Mahotsav

Sambalpur: Preparations are on to organise the 22nd Lok Mahotsav that will be held in January. The three-day festival will start on January 4.
For the first time, a cultural team from Nepal will present a folk dance performance at the festival, convener of the organising committee Dwarika Nayak, told The Telegraph.
Total 10 cultural teams from various states, 12 teams from Odisha and five local teams will perform at the event. Ten prominent singers of west Odisha have been invited to take part in the programme.
Seminars on "Adivasi language and literature" and "Danda nacha of Western Odisha" will be held at the event for which prominent literary personalities have been invited, Nayak said.
The Eastern Zone Cultural Centre has been requested to provide Manipuri and Naga dance troups. A picture exhibition will be held on this occasion with a separate one for children, Nayak said.
For the first time, the festival will have a mascot that will go around the district publicising the event.
A souvenir will be released on the opening day. Governor S.C. Jamir have been invited to attend as the chief guest.
The programme will start with a cultural procession from Samaleswari temple to the festival venue at PHD Ground early on January 4. All the participating cultural troups will perform on the main street in their traditional clothes.
A special food festival with focus on traditional dishes and a rangoli demonstration by women will also take place.
To popularise Sambalpuri handloom and textile, a fancy show will be organised and women will be allowed to walk on the ramp in Sambalpuri clothes. The best participants will be awarded prizes.
The Lok Mahotsav festival is organised by the department of cultural affairs to encourage artists and local talents.
