Kendrapara: Local people on Sunday staged a roadblock, paralysing vehicular traffic on the Paradip-Daitary Expressway, to protest against an alleged rape attempt on a college girl.

The girl was forcibly waylaid by an unidentified man, who tried to rape her at a deserted spot at Jadupur junction near the national highway on Sunday morning.

On hearing the girl's scream, local people rushed to the spot. They rescued the girl from the clutch of the man before he could sexually assault her. The man, however, managed to flee the spot, said police quoting the girl.

The roadblock was staged to protest against the declining law and order situation in the area. The blockade was, however, lifted following police intervention. No FIR has been lodged in this connection. But, the police have registered a case and are investigating the incident, said Kendrapara superintendent of police Dayanidhi Gochayat.
