Paradip: Authorities have chalked out an infrastructure refurbishment plan of Paradip port with a series of projects lined up for implementation.
The port observed its 58th foundation day on Wednesday.
"The Paradip Port Trust continues to maintain its excellent track record consistently by securing second best position for the past four years, in terms of traffic handled among all major ports. It's a commendable achievement that speaks volume of the superb work culture prevailing in the major port along the eastern coast," said port trust chairman Rinkesh Roy.
"Paradip has emerged as one of the premier maritime gateways on the country's eastern coast with a series of user-friendly policies and facilities such as online berth and plot allotment, RFID-based access control system and the GIS-based Integrated Land Management System," he said.
The port is now equipped to handle cape size vessels regularly at the harbour to enhance the cargo throughput. It is vying for the coveted top position in the country with a slew of other infrastructure and modernisation facilities. It is poised for a major infrastructure makeover with projects worth Rs 3,500 crore lined up for implementation.
Under the port-led development, a wood park is coming up for the processing of timber coming from southeast Asian countries. An 11 lakh square metres warehousing space is being developed in the Multi-modal Logistics Park. This will be the one of the largest in the country, and consequently, Paradip will emerge as a major distribution centre in eastern India.
The port trust is all set to develop a world-class and globally competitive smart industrial port city for Rs 2,770 crore that will make Paradip a hub for micro, small and medium enterprises. The major highlights of the project are setting up of Multi-modal Logistics Parks spread over 100 acres.
It is allocating land to industries and has received expression of interest from over 40 industries to set up units.
