Juvenile uncle rapes child

Bhubaneswar: A 15-year-old minor was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly raping his six-year-old niece in a Lakshmisagar slum on Tuesday afternoon.

The victim is battling for life at the SCB medical college in Cuttack.

"We immediately shifted her to the SCB medical college. Her family members were reluctant to lodge a police complaint and therefore we took suo moto cognisance of the incident. A lady officer of the investigative unit on crimes against women has been appointed as the investigating officer," Mohanty said.

Police said one of the neighbours of the polio-afflicted girl was the first to see her lying with mouth gagged and bleeding.

She was then rushed to the Capital Hospital.

"Further investigation revealed that her 15-year-old uncle had come to her home on some work and took advantage of the situation when he found the girl alone," a cop said.

Doctors at the SCB medical college said that a minor girl was undergoing treatment at the ICU.

"The girl's condition is critical. She was brought here on Tuesday at around 11pm with grievous vaginal injuries," said emergency officer of the hospital Bhubanananda Moharana.
