Nuapada: Nuapada district and sessions judge Asim Dalbehera on Tuesday sentenced one Krutibasa Sabar of Tarapur village in Boden police limits to life imprisonment for killing his daughter around four years ago.

The judge, in his order, also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 and further three years of imprisonment for misleading police by terming the death as suicide. The court pronounced the order after testifying 19 witnesses. Krutibasa's wife Harabati Sabar, who was the co-accused in the case, had died in jail as an undertrial sometimes ago.

Sources said the incident had taken place in 2014 when Gitanjali Sabar had entered into an argument with her parents over some reasons. Her agitated parents beat her to death with wooden sticks.

Krutibasa then lodged a complaint with Boden police that his daughter had committed suicide. While investigating, the police came to know that it was a murder case and the victim's parents had killed her. The police arrested both Krutibasa and Harabati in connection with the murder.

Nuapada district and sessions judge court's public prosecutor Nidarshini Rath said the incident was a result of some conflicts between the daughter and her parents. "The judge heard 19 witnesses before the final order. The court has ordered three more years of imprisonment for the accused on the charge of misleading the police," Rath said.
