Nuapada: The fourth evening of Khadial Mahotsav, 2018, opened with the scintillating Kathak performance by Saptarshi Roy and group from Calcutta at the Raja A.T. High School ground on Thursday evening.

The group captivated the audience with a performance on Holi in Braj Bhoomi. As always in the case of Kathak, the recital begun with slow movements of nritya followed by emphasis on abhinaya, which is the expressive aspect of Kathak that attempts to communicate feelings and storyline. The dance soon expanded to include words, musical notes and gestures to articulate the legend and message. It was more than sensory enjoyment as it aimed to engage the emotions and mind of the viewer.

The other performance that astounded the audience was the artistic gymnastic by Abu Saleh group from Murshidabd. The season four winner of the TV realty show Entertainment Ke Liye Kuchh Bhi Karega of the Sony Entertainment television left the viewers awestruck by their sheer brilliance. Other notable performances of the evening included Odissi by the department of culture of state government, Chutkuchuta by Paenri of Sonepur, Adivasi dance by Dynamic of Kalahandi, Dhaap by Koshali Folk Academy of Balangir and Panthi dance of Khariar.

Speaking on the fourth evening of the festival, chief guest of the occasion, Balangir legislator and leader of opposition, Narasingha Mishra, said that the festival should not be seen merely as a source of entertainment, but a force to unite people.

"It is an occasion when people forget, caste, creed and all the differences to stay united. That is something great that I have seen here," he said.
