5 held for rape

Rourkela: Brahmanitaranga police arrested five youths in connection with the November 16 gang-rape incident. The five, allegedly raped a woman in front of her husband. Arrested persons were identified as, Suresh Dungdung, 40, Kalia Oram, 21, Biranchi Majhi, 24, Prakash Lakra, 20 and Susant Sethi, 25. The accused have been sent to judicial custody, said inspector in charge of Brahmanitaranga police station S.N. Muduli. 

Chhena poda 

Nayagarh: The inventor of chhena poda, Sudarshan Sahu, passed away at the age of 86 on Wednesday. Sudarshan breathed his last at his residence in Kacheri Bazaar. 

Encephalitis

Malkangiri: Japanese encephalitis claimed the life of one more child in Malkangiri district on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Daniel Padiami of Katanpali village under the district’s  Podia block.

Co-op strike

Bhubaneswar: The All Odisha Cooperative Bank Employees’ Federation has decided to participate in the nationwide strike call given by the All India Co-operative Bank Employees’ Federation against the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)’s decision of not allowing District Central Cooperative Banks to accept demonetised  notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000.

Bombs hurled

Jagatsinghpur: Unidentified goons on Wednesday hurled bombs at the SC Cell of the local Congress office at Kujang. No loss of life was reported.
