Bhubaneswar: Police on Tuesday retrieved the body of a 24-year-old man from the Kuakhai riverbank in Balianta police limits on the outskirts of the city.

The police prima facie suspect it to be case of suicide because of stress, they are also looking at other angles.

Chinmay Gochayat, a taxi driver, was found with cut marks on his left wrist. The cops also recovered insecticide, a bottle of whisky and disposable glasses from the spot.

His Toyota car was also found on the riverbank near his body.

Local residents spotted his body on the riverbed and they informed the police. "He got married against his family's will two years ago and stayed with his wife. So, we suspect that he killed himself because of family issues," said a police officer.

Investigations revealed that Chinmay had been driving the cab for the past 18 months. "He hailed from Jagatsinghpur and stayed at Badagada here. His employer told us that he had taken some passengers to Odagaon in Nayagarh district on Monday morning. However, he stopped responding to his employer's calls after that. His employer continued to search for him through the night," he said.

Chinmay was found with his earphones plugged in.

"His mobile phone was locked and we are trying to unlock it to ascertain his call details. We have sent the body for post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death," said deputy commissioner of police Anup Kumar Sahoo.
