Bodies recovered from dam

Fire personnel on Wednesday retrieved the bodies of three women and a two-year-old girl, who had gone missing after the boat ferrying them capsized in the back water of Balimela reservoir in Malkangiri district on Monday evening.

Koraput: Fire personnel on Wednesday retrieved the bodies of three women and a two-year-old girl, who had gone missing after the boat ferrying them capsized in the back water of Balimela reservoir in Malkangiri district on Monday evening.

The bodies were retrieved after over 24 hours of search operation.

The deceased have been identified as Dana Sisa, 40, Radhika Sisa, 25, Tulasi Sisa, 2, and Budri Sisa, all residents of Kenduguda village in Orkel police limits.

"The bodies were spotted few metres away from the accident spot and sent for autopsy," said Orkel police station inspector-in-charge Sumitra Jena.

The incident took place around 7pm on Monday, while a group of seven villagers of Kenduguda were returning to the village after completing some agricultural activities near Darlabandha village of Nakamamudi panchayat in a country boat.

The boat capsized mid-way and three out of the seven persons had managed to escape. The boat capsized in the mid-way and three male members out of the group of seven had swam to safety. Owing to remoteness of the area, the administration had started the rescue operation on Tuesday morning after the incident came to light.
