Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police have bagged the Skoch Award for it's web portal www.odishapolice.gov.in during the 52nd Skoch Summit- 2018 held in New Delhi on Saturday.

Inspector-general of police (special armed police) Sanjeeb Panda received the award on behalf of the state police.

The portal has been designed and developed by Suyog under the technical support of National Informatics Centre, Bhubaneswar. Police said the portal was formally launched in 2014 and had attracted more than 15 crore visitors in the past four years.

"The portal provides various citizen-centric online police services to the citizens. It also caters to the requirements of 72,000 police personnel in more than 90 establishments across the state," said a police official.

The police had made a presentation before the jury members in Delhi after which it was short listed for public online voting in which Odisha Police secured the top slot. Thereafter, Odisha Police took part in the National Exhibition on State of Governance held in Delhi, where the delegates cast their votes in favour of various projects. Based on the overall performance in the presentation round, public voting round, performance at the exhibition, the award was given. The Skoch group is a think tank dealing with socio-economic issues with a focus on inclusive growth since 1997.

Panda said that the web portal provided information on various topics such as various wings of state police, safety tips for citizens, states crime scenario, Left wing activities and name and contact details of senior officers.

"The web portal also provides various citizen-centric services such as character verification, employee verification, lost property and copy of FIR. It also helps police personnel in online grievance redress," said Panda, adding that the portal was dynamic and the cops had been trying to make it more interactive.
