Unite for progress, says Sonowal
Dhemaji: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday said Assam and Arunachal Pradesh must work together to achieve all-round development.
"Both these states are rich in bio-diversity and they must harness these potentials to achieve rapid development of the region," Sonowal said during the Ali Aye Ligang Festival celebrations of the Misings and Solung Festival of the Adi community at Mebo, East Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh.
Urging the youth of Arunachal to work towards harnessing the state's agriculture, horticulture, hydrology and tourism potentials to usher in a period of rapid development in all spheres, Sonowal called for a united effort to achieve the goals of growth and prosperity.
"Only through active cooperation and joint initiatives, can the region bring development to all sections of its people and become the Ashtalaxmi of the nation as Prime Minister Modi has envisioned," he said.
Sonowal said the region must strive towards taking advantage of the Centre's Act East policy and take the region towards a high-growth trajectory. He also spoke about the Prime Minister's vision to make the Northeast an organic hub and the need to take joint initiatives by all the states of the region to protect the rich bio-diversity and ecology of the Northeast. He said renewed thrust of the central government on cultural and trade exchanges with the Asean countries would benefit the region immensely and the youth of the region must prepare themselves to take advantage of this transformation.
Mebo MLA and the chief patron of the celebration committee Lambo Tayeng told The Telegraph on Saturday that, they were trying to knit age-old relationship between Adi and Mising communities and expressed his gratitude towards Sonowal for attending the festival.
The three-day festival showcased the rich traditions and cultures of Adi and Mising communities in which traditional sports competitions like archery and boat race and traditional food and fashion show were organised.
